So now there's another to add to the old bookshelf...and that's really cool that your volume comes with discs. How is that "Gotham Knight"?Redartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08221459636234713619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-29889716220728442202019-07-08T12:21:04.765-05:002019-07-08T12:21:04.765-05:00And I think we're all aware that Archie comics...And I think we're all aware that Archie comics in general have grown up - especially recently!

DougDoughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04248324005584963229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-37945828577332941932019-07-08T12:20:19.572-05:002019-07-08T12:20:19.572-05:00Hi, Redartz -

The discs are embedded in the back cover of the book. I have a copy of the first 7-8 issues of George Perez's Wonder Woman series that also contains a film in its back cover. So this must have been a thing with DC's trades a few years ago.

I also think that this may not be a complete reprinting of the original 4-issue Batman Black and White series. I have a Harley & Ivy hardcover that contains a story that originally saw print in BB&W #4 (written by Paul Dini); it's not in this book I'm using. But that doesn't detract from the positive aspects of this particular publication, and as you stated, I am also happy to own it!

DougDoughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04248324005584963229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-41034896104593149142019-07-08T09:52:57.705-05:002019-07-08T09:52:57.705-05:00Cool! I've actually read this story - but I don't have any of the Batman B&W books (although I would like to get to those some day), rather I have it in the Mad Love and Other Stories tpb - also a really snazzy collection.
Can't disagree with anything said about the story; it's short but quite brutally effective. Timm really demonstrated his mastery of the craft here. Otherwise, I can say that I really like seeing stories with such serious, adult subject-matter drawn in a very 'kid-friendly', almost Archie-like style. It makes them all the more effective (and by the way, speaking of Archie, the Mad Love tpb I mentioned also has a story drawn by none other than Dan DeCarlo).Edo Bosnarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-91024466345740991152019-07-08T08:12:56.656-05:002019-07-08T08:12:56.656-05:00Yes! You're discussing one of the greatest tpb...Yes! You're discussing one of the greatest tpb collections of the Darknight Detective ever. My younger son gifted me with the first volume one Christmas, and I was mindblasted with all the b/w blessings inside. I soon had to pick up volume two on my own.

I assume both volumes are collected in your hardback edition; correct me if I'm wrong. The list of creators in both volumes is like a "Who's Who" in the comics industry. One treat, for instance, is the chance to see Big John Buscema's version of Batman. Anyway, you picked a great story to cover today.

Bruce Timm truly rocks. Much as I like a finely rendered page, such as a Neal Adams or Brian Bolland might execute, I still LOVE the creative flourishes and individual stylings of a more 'cartoony' style. And I use the term as a compliment; how can you not admire the skills of someone who can portray so much with just a few lines or shadings? And Timm is a master of this. From his work on Batman: the Animated Series to his abundance of comic work, his talent is obvious. He puts a lot of visual fun in a page, even when the subject matter is pretty adult (as you noted above, Doug). Great story, inarguably. And I'd recommend "Batman: Black and White" to anyone and everyone...Redartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08221459636234713619noreply@blogger.com
