I didn't get it for free (he says green with envy) - although I did snag a very cheap copy off of eBay many years ago, so I can't complain.
This is a good story to highlight. I'm always happy to see any story with Chaykin's art, since I'm a big fan of the guy's work. And I can't disagree with Pete that Chaykin could have done many more Solomon Kane stories, even though his visualization of the character as a rather handsome, well-dressed swashbuckler runs against Howard's description of him as a rather gaunt, ascetic Puritan.Edo Bosnarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-68508686712539327292019-08-19T13:23:57.046-05:002019-08-19T13:23:57.046-05:00I knew you'd like Solomon Kane, Doug! He's a much more multi-layered character than he first appears ( at least in Roy's hands ), and I'd point to Skulls In The Stars ( in this volume ) and the colour 'Mark Of Kane' two-parter ( sadly not in this volume ) for evidence of that.
I'd be interested to know what you think of the Kane movie, which does cheekily give him a full origin. It had it's flaws, but I liked a lot of it, and lead actor James Purefoy totally got Kane, I think.
Regardless, I thought Chaykin should've spent his career drawing Kane - if ever artist and character were suited to one another!pete doreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17004574271734256770noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-32753849869068680632019-08-19T10:44:00.544-05:002019-08-19T10:44:00.544-05:00Thanks for stopping by, Jeremiah.

Just the right moodiness to it.

DougDoughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04248324005584963229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-87888755510085921292019-08-19T07:42:39.773-05:002019-08-19T07:42:39.773-05:00One of the things I like about Chakyin's art a...One of the things I like about Chakyin's art at this point in his career is that you can start to see the evolution of his characters looks from how he first started out to what would eventually become his very distinctive style. He's not quite there here but it's getting there. Jeremiahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17445954657178034927noreply@blogger.com
