Good analysis of that entire last sequence, Doug.Edo Bosnarnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-76498739788191882182019-07-01T13:54:10.119-05:002019-07-01T13:54:10.119-05:00You raise an excellent point, Redartz, in remarkin...You raise an excellent point, Redartz, in remarking on the size of the book. In Metamaus, Spiegelman states that the trim size of the art is the only way he ever wants it to be exhibited. He claims it was designed to be that size, and any deviation from his intent is unacceptable to him.

DougDoughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04248324005584963229noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8210408773928235445.post-7373034974467349842019-07-01T10:46:22.127-05:002019-07-01T10:46:22.127-05:00Well Doug, that's another excellent review. Ve...Well Doug, that's another excellent review. Very well done. You have covered the nuances and ramifications of the book so well, I can't really add anything. So a couple of thoughts about the format.

You mention that your copy of Vol. 1 doesn't have the banner. I picked up both volumes somewhat later apparently. I found the books' presentation quite attractive. The extended cover with maps, the matte finish. And actually the physical size of the book; being somewhat smaller than most graphic novels. Very inviting to the reader. Sized, no doubt, due to the size of the original installments published in "Raw". Those were inserts, a bit larger than digest size (for those who have not seen "Raw").

By focusing my comments on format rather than content today, I certainly don't mean to belittle the story. That would be impossible. Again, you state the material so effectively, I can only say "Yes, what he said"...

Redartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08221459636234713619noreply@blogger.com
